Job purpose
 
The Seed to Table Gardener position at Florida Permaculture Development is a part-time or full-time position maintaining and cultivating gardens for various clients.  This position primarily works growing vegetables for local chefs.
 
Duties and responsibilities
 
Plant Nursery Work

  • Seed starting

  • Irrigation maintenance

  • Perennial vegetable and native plant propagation

 
Vegetable Garden Cultivation

  • Effectively treat for pests and combat weeds

  • Skillfully harvest and deliver to chefs and clients

  • Document all activities, stay organized, and follow a carefully planned production schedule

  • Maintain clear and open communication with clients

 
Food Forest Installation and maintenance

  • Install fruit trees, perennial vegetables, and natives according to the site design

  • Coordinate plant pick up and delivery

  • Install and maintain irrigation

  • Observe and monitor plants for stress and pests

 
Qualifications
 
Preferred applicants have a background in ecology, organic farming, tropical agroforestry, or a closely related degree in this field.   Ideal applicants also have a strong interest in learning and a positive attitude. 
 
Qualifications include:

  • Permaculture Design Certification or similar experience

  • Undergraduate degree in related field

  • Work experience in a related field prefered

  • Applicant must be self-motivated and enjoy working with a team

  • professional and courteous attitude towards coworkers and clients 

  • computer literacy and willingness to prepare newsletters, workshops, excel sheets, and other tasks on the computer. 

 
 
Working conditions
 
During summer months, work conditions can be physically stressful.  Applicants must be acclimated to outdoor conditions during warm months. 
 
Physical requirements
 
This position is very physical, and applicants must be capable of full days working outside. 

Start date for this position flexible but open in October and the compensation starts at $20/hr with the potential of increased wages of up to $25/hr over time.
